As a special treat, we’ve included a reprinted interview with the legendary original guitarist of the Misfits- Franche’ Coma, featuring brand new illustrations by Mark McCormick (markmccormickart.com).
If that wasn’t enough, 34 full page artist pages grace the inside pages. It’s a whose who if super talented creators working in a variety of styles from all over the world, and all dedicated to the SKULL! Included: Cassandra Warren, Glyn Smyth, Shawn Hebrank, Geordan Moore, Rhys Cooper, Tallboy, Ashley McMullen, Albie Rock, Peter Nevins, Jason Goad, Brian Ewing, Budai, Murdoch Stafford, Jeral Tidwell, Franx, Ryan August, Dzgnbio, Horrorwood, Konnik, Jazun, Anville, Droid, Mike Sutfin, Jon MDC, Gregg Gordon, Sean Tidy, James Flames, Kenn TwoFour, Jess Guercia, Jeremi Rimel, Mike Fisher, Surge, Mictron and Joe Bonham.

GODMACHINE is the man : June 17, 2009
So yesterday was my birthday, nothing special. left work late, got home and enjoyed a nice diner with my wife...
and then this showed up via twitter.

He rocked this out in a couple minutes. No where near his usual bulletproof executions for sure. but it moved me... I've been working on a couple projects in tandem with him lately. From t-shirt gigs to large shoe companies we seem to keep popping up on the same gigs. He's truly an amazing illustrator and a huge inspiration to me on a few levels.

As I crank on some new client work, check out this drawing from George Romero. He was grounded and passed the time noodling on the 'Safe in the Light'.
Totally awesome. Thanks George!

Knuckles - The Font : April 15, 2009
Hydro 74 offered to pull together a font for me a few weeks back, to which I said HELL YES. A couple days ago I sent him the completed alphabet & numbers... and boom, he just sent me the final compiled PostScript & TrueType files. It's a display face, so just uppercase, numerals and some punctuation.
It will be available for purchase in my store & at thegoldenblack.com the first week of may.
Inspired by the traditional lettering styles of knuckle tattoos...

Showing at the Warhol Museum : March 1, 2009
Yep - I got's me a hunk of art in a museum.
The Vader Project is being showcased at the Warhol through May 3rd.
The Vader project has grown quite abit from the original 66 artists - It now sports 100 contributors. If you're in Pittsburgh swing by and check it out.
----
This exhibition includes 100 works by contemporary international artists utilizing 1:1 scale authentic prop replicas of the Darth Vader helmet used in the Star Wars films. Each helmet was a blank canvas for the artist to paint, design, and customize. These iconic helmets of the notorious movie villain were created by some of the biggest names in today’s pop surrealist and underground art scene including Shag, Peter Kuper, Attaboy, Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Dalek, Paul Frank, Ron English, Jeff Soto, Frank Kozik, Wade Lageose, Joe Ledbetter, Alex Pardee, Suckadelic, Cameron Tiede, Michelle Valigura, Sunich, Mister Cartoon, Marc Ecko, Amanda Visell, and many more. The Vader Project was curated by Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE Toys, one of the largest designer vinyl and art-toy distributors in the world.

It's COLD in the Studio : March 1, 2009
Three space heaters on constant blast, and my toes are still frozen.
Gigposter for Pelican available soon in my store:

Love their music, honored to do this for them. On top of it, I'm super stoked with how the drawing came out. simple, detailed and dark... just like Pelican's music. BTW, that is hand lettered.
Gigposter for Intronaut available soon in my store:

Tried some new stuff here, some of it successful, some of it failed.
Fountain print on black.
Messing with some new techniques:

Spending alot of time looking at ways to create texture and breathe life into objects. Check out that moon. wild stuff, very excited over here.
Motorizing a Schwinn in the corner of the studio (its REALLY cold over there):

When the newly styled Schwinn Stingray came out in 2004, I just had to have one. Damn think looked like a motorcycle. SO I preordered one, picked it up at the shop they day they were released and rode it... Once. It's an impossible bike to ride if your bigger than a 9 year old. Hard to pedal, wide turning radius, shit for brakes. It has literally sat unused since then. So in what will likely be a decision I'll regret, I'm outfitting it with an 80cc single-stroke motor. Of course like any self respecting male, I'm doing it in my basement with an instruction manual that only came in Chinese.
4AM Advil dose reveals my worst tattoos:

I still love them, even if they are faded & poorly executed. They represent a time in my life soo long ago.
Profile sketch of next Brian Morris toy... currently being sculpted by Chris Ryniak:

I've seen the initial sculpt... EVIL AS FUCK.
Will Wild Turkey infused with raw bacon make you sick? We'll find out in about 30 days:

Two great tastes in one sip.
My buddy Nick once infused Bourbon with Tobacco. Guess it tasted amazing. Though it landed at least one person in the hospital with Tobacco/Nicotine poisoning. Apparently you need to steam the Tobacco prior to infusing it, cuz you know, it's a poison.
